Exhibition on heart

Thiruvananthapuram: Sree Uthradom Thirunal Hospital will organise an exhibition, `Heart to Heart 2006,' at Women's Club, Kowdiar, from September 22 to 24, on the occasion of World Heart Day. The World Heart Day falls on September 24 and this year's theme is, `How Young is your Heart?'

The three-day exhibition will focus on creating awareness among people on how they can keep their heart young and healthy.

The theme, `How Young is your Heart?' encourages people to adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle by being physically more active, eating healthy and avoiding smoking, including exposure to second-hand smoke.

The exhibition will give detailed information on the structure and functions of the heart and the diseases that affect the heart. Separate sections deal with cholesterol and high blood pressure, two of the major risk factors for heart diseases. Modern equipment and methods for treating heart diseases like the heart-lung machine, stents, ventilator monitor will be on display.

Visitors to the exhibition can also make use of a specific test, which can help one assess one's risk of a heart attack in the next ten years. Tests like ECG, Echo will be available for modest rates at the exhibition. Visitors can also seek medical advice from a panel of senior cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at the exhibition.
