THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said the Government will soon introduce a Bill in the State Assembly to strengthen the arm of the law in dealing with mafia groups in the State. Replying to a submission by Congress MLA K. Babu on Tuesday, he said mafia groups, with their own organised chains to carry out unlawful activities, were very much a fact of life in today's Kerala. They have stakes in hawala operations, land grabbing, drug trafficking, spirit smuggling, vehicle robbery, fake currency circulation and similar criminal activities. The mafia groups had immense money clout. Because of the very nature of their operations, it was difficult to come out with any assessment of the scale of their unlawful business.
