Minister dares CPI(M) to expel him

Special Correspondent

Controversy over his description of Jyoti Basu as "Krishna of this age"

KOLKATA: Reacting to a reference to him by senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and State Transport Minister Subash Chakraborty in the Puja issue of a Bengali magazine as "the Krishna of this age," veteran leader Jyoti Basu on Tuesday said that "he [Subash Chakraborty] has lost his mind."

"If that is so, they [the CPI(M) leadership] should drive me out of the party for there is no place for the insane in the party," Mr. Chakraborty said when asked to comment on Mr. Basu's remark. He also clarified that what he had meant was "Mr. Basu was like Krishna."
