DIC(K) dissidents flay leadership

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: Majority of the workers of the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) have left the party in protest against the leadership's move to merge with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said a group of leaders who quit the party.

DIC(K) dissident leaders said at a press conference here on Tuesday that they would join the efforts of V.K. Assai Haji, State executive member, who had resigned from the party two weeks ago, to chalk out the course of action. They would hold discussions with senior leaders and party workers. Mr. Assai Haji, who was present at the meet, said he would take part in the meeting of DIC(K) leaders who had quit the party to be convened by the former Minister P. Sankaran in Thrissur on September 20.

The dissident leaders said DIC(K) president K. Muraleedharan had taken the initiative to hold merger talks with NCP leader Sharad Pawar without discussing it with the party. They protested against the `anti-democratic' style of the party leadership.
