Infopark: decision on land price on Saturday

Staff Reporter

Kochi: A final decision on the prices of land to be acquired for the development of the Infopark at Kakkanad near here will be taken on Saturday. The landowners have been divided into 13 categories.

The Government has expressed its willingness to give a better price to the owners of land with an area below 20 cents. A marginal increase in price for owners included in categories 8 to 13 is also under consideration. The landowners who belong to these categories and who agree to the conditions put forth by the Government are required to hand over their letters of consent before Wednesday noon, according to District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish. Addressing a meeting of the Grievance Redressal Cell on Tuesday, the Collector said the Government was committed to allotting habitable land to those who would lose their houses during the acquisition. The owners of `karabhoomi' (original land), belonging to categories from 1 to 7, will be given an ex gratia payment of one per cent a month from the Rs.69,640 fixed by the State-level committee, according to the Collector. This allotment will be given for seven months, from March 2006 to September 2006.

Those who belong to categories 8 to 13 will be given an ex gratia of 10.5 per cent — 1.5 per cent a month — as there is widespread complaint that the price fixed for them has been low. The package declared by the Government for those who will lose their residences will be implemented, the Collector said. Revenue Divisional Officer Mini Antony will visit the sites to prepare the list of members of all families. The number of people who would need rehabilitation will be decided after receiving the report. The Collector said that those who would lose their residence would be given facilities for the development of basic infrastructure.
