Journalist's house attacked

THRISSUR: The house of the Mangalam daily's Chavakkad reporter, E A Babu, at Palayur was stoned by two unidentified persons on Monday night. The windowpanes of the house were smashed in the attack. The police have launched search operations to nab the miscreants. - Staff Reporter

Club inaugurated

KOLLAM: `Synergy', the human resource club of T.K.M. Institute of Management, Karuvelil, was inaugurated by C.S. Anil Kumar, vice-president (Human Resources) of Reliance Retail, at a function at the institute on Saturday. The club has four committees. The committees will conduct national seminar, set up a resource centre, publish a college magazine and take up human resource projects. — Staff Reporter

Bypoll peaceful

KOLLAM: Bypoll in three grama panchayat wards and the Kottarakara division of the district panchayat on Tuesday was peaceful. Tentative figures showed that there was only 53 per cent polling in the Kottarakara division. At the Karamoodu ward in Pathanapuram panchayat, 67.4 per cent polling was registered. Out of the 1,871 voters, 1,261 cast their votes. At the Kumbalam ward in Perayam panchayat, 66.86 per cent polling was registered. Out of 1,358 voters, 908 cast their votes. At the Kannanallur South ward in Thrikovilvattom panchayat, 62.48 per cent polling was registered. Out of 2,236 voters, 1,397 voted. — Staff Reporter

Seminar postponed

MALAPPURAM: The Chaliyar Samrakshana Samiti has postponed the Chaliyar seminar, scheduled for Thursday, to November in view of the convenience of the Ministers and the people's representatives concerned. A meeting of the Samiti held at Vazhakkad on Monday urged the Government to take the initiative to protect the biodiversity of the Chaliyar and its tributaries. — Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: A seminar on the role of Gulf Malayalis in the development of Malappuram will be held at Parappanangadi on Thursday afternoon.
