JAIPUR: The Pink City will witness an American road show for two days starting today (Wednesday). The "celebration of America", being organised here by the American Center, New Delhi, promises variety -- dialogue, useful information for prospective students, talks on Indo-US relations and entertainment, including theatre and music. As many as two dozens US Embassy functionaries and a good number of invited guests have already arrived in the Rajasthan Capital for the two-day programme, which is being held in North India after a similar event at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh earlier. "We are organising it in cities other than the four metros where we have our centers," said Robin Diallo, First Secretary, Culture, at the US Embassy, talking to media persons on the eve of the road show. "The event is part of the people-to-people diplomacy," she explained. The road show promises a wide range of educational and cultural activities, including discussions on education in the US, to be held at Maharani Gayatri Devi School and Maharani College, a workshop on English language teaching at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, and talks on "US-India relations" and "Indo-US Business linkages" at Kanoria Women's College and Podar Institute of Management, respectively. The other scheduled programmers include a talk on "Fiscal management in Indian States" by George Deikun, Director, US Agency for International Development (USAID), and an address to Rotary members by Larry Schwartz, Minister-Counsellor for Public Affairs at the US Embassy, on "US-India relations: the opportunities ahead" and a roundtable led by John Davison, Minister-Counsellor for Economic Affairs, and Carmine D.Aloisio, Minister-Counsellor for Commercial Affairs at the US Embassy. The theatre and music shows include performances by American singer Christine Matovich, enactment of Arthur Miller's play, "The Price", by the Chandigarh-based Abhinet Theatre group, a street play in Kalakar Colony and a Joe Almedia show as the finale. Ms. Diallo said that on both the days, the US Educational Foundation in India (USEFI), the USAID, Span Magazine and the American Center Library would have information booths open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the banquet hall of Hotel Mansingh.
