DEHRA DUN: The ruling Congress will hold thanksgiving rallies in all district headquarters of Uttaranchal on September 23, the day the Congress Chief Ministers' Conclave begins in Naini Tal, to thank party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the recent Union Cabinet decision to rename Uttaranchal as Uttarakhand. Announcing this here on Tuesday, party spokesman Surender Kumar said that by taking this decision the party had initiated the process to fulfil an election promise and the dreams of Uttarakhandis. The BJP MP from Pauri Garhwal, B.C. Khanduri, at a separate meeting described the move as an election gimmick.
