JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has announced the launch of an "Excise amnesty scheme 2006-07" to settle longstanding cases of revenue dues in the excise sector. The scheme will mainly benefit the contractors who were required to pay their dues before March 31 this year. An official release issued here stated that the scheme would provide a significant relief to the contractors whose excise licence was cancelled on account of violation of conditions. The dues and interest will be waived in such cases on depositing 75 per cent of the principal amount. The cases in which only the interest amount was due will be disposed of after payment of only 10 per cent of the dues. The release said those who had backed out of the tenders would also be required to pay only 10 per cent of the amount to get the benefit of waiver of dues.
