BHOPAL: The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday disallowed a petition seeking an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation and directed that the State Economic Offences Wing go ahead with investigations into allegation that the State Director-General of Police, Swaraj Puri, had forged documents for his son's admission to an engineering college under the NRI quota. The Court of the Senior Additional Judge at Indore had directed the EOW last Friday to investigate under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code the charge that Mr. Puri had forged documents for his son Shreyas Puri's admission to Indore's Govindram Sakseria Institute of Technology and Sciences (GSITS) five years ago under the NRI quota. When contacted, an EOW source said here on Tuesday that the court's order had been received and the "investigation/inquiry" has already begun under Section 156(3) CrPC. The order that the EOW should investigate the allegations by the Indore senior ADJ and Special Court came on September 15 in response to a petition by former corporator, Mahesh Garg. Mr. Garg had alleged in his petition that Shreyas had been admitted to GSITS showing one Babulal Somani as his NRI grandfather and sponsor. Mr. Garg said the details of Mr. Puri's son's admission were procured from the engineering college under the Right to Information Act. Responding to the petition by advocate Manohar Dalal on behalf of Mr. Garg seeking a CBI probe into the case, Justice N. K. Modi on Tuesday ordered that it was premature to raise such a demand at this stage since the EOW was already investigating the case. The court has said that the EOW be given one month to investigate. Mr. Dalal told The Hindu later on Tuesday that the EOW would have to file an FIR against the DGP and proceed with investigations.
