Sify iWay launched its refurbished cyber café on Dr. Nair Road in T. Nagar. On the occasion, S. Baskaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar district, distributed student cards to six underprivileged students to enable them to browse the Internet from anywhere in the country at rates much cheaper than the normal. The renovated café has 41 reconfigured computers, 18 of them dedicated to online games. The donation to the students is part of an ongoing programme conducted by the spouses of Sify employees. A five-year-old trust run by them runs courses for poor children, and has helped them find placement either in Sify outlets or elsewhere. Students must have basic knowledge of mathematics and English, and should have appeared for the Standard X examinations. They should be in the 17 to 21 age group, and their family income should be less than Rs.3,500 a month. A seven-day training module, which includes classes in personality development, basic computer skills, spoken English and training in iWay, is also being conducted.
