JIPMER: Jayalalithaa to write to Kalam, Manmohan
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has said she would write to the Prime Minister and President, urging them to drop the plan to grant autonomy and change the status of the JIPMER in Pondicherry.
Charge against PMK
In a statement here on Tuesday, Ms. Jayalalithaa alleged that in the guise of autonomy, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leadership was attempting to take possession of the JIPMER.
The plan to appoint a 22-member committee to govern the hospital would give room for political interference in its administration, she said.
Pointing out that the central medical institution was getting Rs. 104 crore allocation, she said poor people and the Union Government would be the losers if the proposal were allowed to take effect.
In order to save the institution, the AIADMK was participating in the agitations by JIPMER employees, she said, adding that she had pledged her support to their agitation when they met her on September 16.
