Two women held under Goondas Act

CHENNAI: Two women were detained under the Goondas Act in the city on Tuesday on charges of selling illegally distilled arrack.

According to the prohibition wing police, the two, Kanniammal (35) of K M Garden Pulianthope and Savithri (50) of Kodungayur Colony were detained as they were in possession of over 200 litres of ID arrack. The arrack was purchased in Karnataka and clandestinely brought into the city.

On a tip-off, the police arrested the two women and seized the arrack. Police found that several cases were pending against the two in the city.
