Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Kovoor, Besant Road, LB Road, Karpagam Garden, Arunachalapuram, Padmanabha Nagar, Shanthi Colony, Velachery, Taramani Road, Tiruvanmiyur LB Road, I Avenue, I and II Main Road, Indira Nagar, Goplapuram, Cathedral Road, Sastri Nagar, Valmigi Nagar, K.K Road, Tiruvalluvar Nagar, CLRI HT and CLRI staff quarters on Thursday (9 a.m to 5 p.m) for maintenance work.

New BSNL facility

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (Tamil Nadu cirle) has launched a `missed call alert' service, which will enable customers to keep track of calls missed when their phones are out of reach or switched off.

To have this service activated, they will have to divert `out of reach' calls to 17010. As soon the user comes within coverage area or switches on the instrument, they will be able to see the list of calls missed.

Seminar on WTO impact

The Women Entrepreneurship Promotional Association will conduct a one-day seminar on the `Implication and impact of WTO on micro and small industries' at Hotel Savera on Monday (25th September) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For further details, call 94440 44068 or 98418 71385.

Maths quiz

The Srinivasa Ramanujan Academy of Maths Talent will hold an inter-school Math quiz for students of classes nine to twelve. Each school may send one team. Schools have to send names of participants on or before October 8. For details, contact 24983072.

Office-beares elected

The 62nd annual general body meeting of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce was held on Tuesday. S. Santhanam was elected as president for 2006-07. P.G.Rangabashyam, V.L.Jayakumar, Sathyanarayanan R.Dave, Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar and C.B.Kothari were the other office-bearers.

School launches

5S project

The Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools recently launched the `5S project' to enhance work efficiency. Mrs.Y.G. Parthasarathy, dean and director of the group and Yuji Okada, acting consul general, Japanese Consulate, launched the project.

Eye screening

In connection with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's 81st birthday celebration, Chennai Metro North is organising a free cataract eye screening camp on 24th September at door no: 9, plot no: 49, Nehru street, Lakshmi Nagar, Kolathur between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. To register, call 94442 68969.

Trains cancelled

Due to line block / power block in connection with engineering work on Chennai Central - Gudur section from September 20 to October 10, train nos MSP-7 Moore Market Complex (MMC) - Sullurupetta local leaving MMC at 10 a.m.and SPM-8 Sullurupetta - MMC local leaving Sullurupetta at 12.35 p.m. will be partially cancelled between Sullurupetta and Elavur.
