Strike at gas refilling plant

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: Nearly 100 workers at Bharatgas refilling plant of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd; at Ganapathy began a two-day strike on Tuesday demanding productivity related wages.

The strike had affected the LPG cylinder refilling activities. The plant obliges refill requests of seven districts in Western Tamil Nadu and a few other districts near Coimbatore. The plant used to dispatch 30,000 cylinders a day.

Because of the strike not a single load could be dispatched till Tuesday afternoon, trade union sources claimed.

The strike is expected to increase the waiting period for refills by a week or even 10 days, the sources added.
