BANGALORE: Using the documentary as a form to tell heart-rending stories, many film-makers have tried to bring out the harsh realities faced by societies, their pains and struggles. Vimochana, Forum for Women's Rights, in collaboration with Bangalore Film Society and the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore is organising an Asian Women's Film Festival "Reimaging the World, Reimagining Women" on September 23 and 24 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Alliance Francaise. The film festival will feature documentaries made by women film-makers, some of them internationally acclaimed, and after every film, discussions will be held on the issue addressed by the particular film. According to Kalpana and Shakun of Vimochana, the documentaries will cover a whole range of genres and expressive styles and have been organised into three segments. Crafting the Other Aesthetic: this segment will look at women's creative expressions and their contribution to evolving the aesthetic and politics of documentary cinema; Speaking pain; Scripting Resistance: this will look at war and violence and how women in such societies lived with and resisted brutality; Framing Multiple Narratives : this segment will look at the different identities that women live with. George Kutty of the Bangalore Film Society said that the common thread that runs through these films is how women have looked at various issues from their perspective. The festival of films has been curated by the International Association of Women in Radio and Television.
