HYDERABAD: Tennis star Sania Mirza's advertisement for a shoe company ran into a controversy with an association Priyanka-Rahul Gandhi Brigade accusing her of dishonouring the national flag.

Activists of the Brigade, led by its president Manoj Alexander, burnt Ms. Sania's effigy here at Nizam college demanding an unconditional apology from her to the nation.

According to Mr. Alexander, Mirza was seen keeping her foot on the national flag as part of the advertisement and thus hurt the sentiments of the citizens.
