Man shot at

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man was shot at and injured following a brawl at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi on Monday night.

It all happened around 11 p.m. when Deepak Maggo, who is said to be the nephew of a Municipal Councillor, was shot at and injured in the right arm by a man described by the police as a registered bad character of the area. Enquiries revealed that Deepak was trying to intervene in a fight between the accused and another man when he was shot at.

Deepak was taken to a private clinic where he is now stated to be out of danger. A hunt has been launched for the culprit.

Alleged robber held

NEW DELHI: An alleged robber was arrested by the Special Staff of the East Delhi police at Preet Vihar on Monday. The police claim to have recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla car from his possession.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi) Ajay Chaudhry, the Special Staff received a tip-off that Moin, a member of the dreaded Lalit Pandit and Pappu Jat gang, was at the Preet Vihar McDonald's outlet. Subsequently a team led by Inspector Rakesh Dixit raided the place and arrested him.

During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in robberies, murders and auto-theft in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad. He allegedly revealed that he along with Lalit Pandit and Nirmal Dass had murdered one Narender Jat in Ghaziabad in 2002. He was later arrested in connection with robbery cases at Geeta Colony, Krishna Nagar and Preet Vihar and was released on bail earlier this year.

He along with his accomplices stole the Toyota Corolla from Anand Vihar on September 15 night. "He and his other accomplices operated as members of the "Black Yamaha Gang" in Hyderabad. They committed as many as 15 robberies and three murders there in two months," said Mr. Chaudhry.

Baby `stolen'

New Delhi: A four-month-old boy has allegedly been stolen from the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospital here. Kuldeep, who was admitted to the hospital for treatment of typhoid, went missing on September 15 night, his parents said in a complaint lodged with Harinagar police station in West Delhi. Boy's father Ranbeer said that the baby was sleeping beside him in the gallery of the hospital but when he woke up at around 5 pm, he found him missing. Ranbeer, a resident of Harinagar is originally from Rajasthan and works in a tea stall.

Jailed for dowry death

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced a man to seven years' rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty for harassing his wife for dowry and driving her to commit suicide within three years of marriage. Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the convict Sandeep Mer of Vikaspuri in West Delhi convicting him under Sections 304 B (dowry death) and 498 A (husband or relative subjecting wife to cruelty) of the IPC.

Mahesh Ahuja, father of the victim, had lodged an FIR with the Vikaspuri police station following her death on April 24, 2002. He alleged that Sandeep who was married to her daughter on April 26, 1999 used to harass her for bringing insufficient dowry. Her in-laws also used to maltreat her for the same, he stated. A case was registered against Sandeep, his mother Vijay Mer and sister Sonia Arora.
