Elderly woman murdered

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Yet another elderly woman was murdered and robbed of her gold ornaments in the city on Tuesday.

The police said the robbers had strangled Lalitha (66) with a rope at her house in Kirloskar Layout in Kamalanagar, under the jurisdiction of Basaveshwaranagar police. They had made away with a gold "mangalya" chain and a pair of gold bangles she was wearing.

The murder, suspected to have taken place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., came to light around 6.30 p.m. after Lalitha's husband, Krishna Murthy, returned home from work. He works as an accounts officer at ISKCON, the police said. When Krishna Murthy knocked on the front door of his house, there was no response from his wife. When he went to the back of his house, he found the rear door ajar. When he entered the house, he found Lalitha lying dead in the kitchen, the police said.

The elderly couple's daughter and son-in-law, who live with them, had been to work and Lalitha was alone at her house from 9 a.m., the police said. The Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case.

In a similar incident on Thursday, two youths had murdered Lakshmamma (73) at her Vyalikaval house and looted Rs. 2 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 3.75 lakh.

However, in the early hours of Friday, the police caught the two youths who had allegedly slit Lakshmamma's throat.
