Subhiksha to open 80 stores

HYDERABAD: Subhiksha, the discount supermarket and pharmacy retail chain, will be opening 80 stores in Andhra Pradesh in four months — 55 of them this month — at an investment of Rs. 40 crore. R. Subramanian, Managing Director, Subhiksha Trading Services, told a press conference here on Wednesday that the company was on its way to a strong foothold in the South which would enable it to consolidate. The company, he said, planned to invest Rs. 300 crore on expansion by 2009, opening over 600 stores across the country. An IPO was planned after one year.
