No ward reserved for men SC contestants

PALLIPALAYAM: The Municipality in this textile town does not have a ward reserved for Scheduled Caste men contestants. A ward has been earmarked for SC women candidates. Municipal sources said the SC population in the town was only 643 and as per norms it was difficult to allocate a ward for men contestants.

Of the 21 wards in the civic body, seven wards have been earmarked for women candidates, including a ward for SC women. The wards are 4, 12, 15, 17, 18 and 19, and Ward 10 for SC women. The total voting population under this local body is 35,635, of which 18,152 are men. The election for this local body is on October 13. No nominations were received on the first day .
