BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil on Wednesday urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to exercise discretionary powers vested in him by the Constitution to refer the Rs. 150-crore bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a probe. In a nine-page letter to the Governor, Mr. Patil said the present Government had been in the thick of controversy and urged the Governor to recommend the dismissal of the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government. Some Congress leaders had met the Governor twice during the last two months and demanded a CBI probe into bribery charge made against Mr. Kumaraswamy and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa by suspended BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy. "In exercise of the discretionary powers vested in the Governor under Article 163 (2) of the Constitution, Mr. Chaturvedi should refer the bribery charge to the CBI," Mr. Patil said. Releasing copies of the letter at a press conference here, Mr. Patil said: "There have been widespread allegations of corruption and maladministration against the present Government in the State, which is shattering the very roots of the concept of Rule of Law upon which our polity is built-up," he said Mr. Patil said he had informed the Governor about corrupt practices and brutal murders taking place in public places in Bangalore during the past few months.
