Air Deccan to start Chennai-Salem service
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Salem will soon be air linked with Chennai. Bangalore-based budget airline, Air Deccan, plans to start scheduled flight operations in a month.
After receiving the "For the Sake of Honour Award" from the Rotary Club of Madras Central, Air Deccan CEO G.R. Gopinath said it would be capitalising on the idle airports activation programme of the Airports Authority of India. Pointing out the airline would commission a full-fledged maintenance base with a hangar facility in Chennai by December-end, Capt. Gopinath appealed to the Civil Aviation Ministry to look at developing 450 unused airports. Later, addressing a press conference, Capt. Gopinath said the decision to start a separate cargo airline was in an "advanced stage."
