Rs. 11 lakhs stolen from bank

JEYPORE: In a major burglary, thieves walked away with Rs.11.37 lakhs from the Similiguda branch of Allahabad Bank on Sunday night.

The police said the burglars could have entered the strong room of the bank from the backside of the bank and took away the cash. Bank's manager lodged a complaint with the police.

Koraput Superintendent of Police Aruna Bhatra visited the spot along with senior police officials. Further investigation is on.

Free medical camp

The Rotary Club and the Homeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI) jointly organised a free medical camp at Dangaguda village in Koraput district on Sunday. In spite of heavy rain, more than 265 patients were examined.

HMAI officials, retired Additional District Medical Officer Ekalavya Panigrahy and others examined the patients. Most of them were found to be suffering from anaemia, diarrhoea, viral fever, malaria, rheumatism and scabies. President of Rotary Club Ramavatar Gupta and secretary Goutam Baid supervised the camp.

Tributes to Visveswaraya

Former CMD of Visakha Steel Plant, B.N. Rath, paid rich tributes to Sir M. Visveswaraya on the latter's 146th birth anniversary organised by the Institute of Engineers, Sunabeda on Sunday. He remembered the contributions of Visveswaraya to the nation.

Mr. Rath spoke on the role of engineers in natural calamities and advised the engineers to take appropriate steps to control natural disasters in the country.

General Manager of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Jugalkishore Mahapatra, Institute of Engineers secretary, Pratap Sankar, and NALCO engineer, P.K. Das also spoke at the programme.
