IN PROTEST: JIPMER employees and leaders of political parties court arrest inside the campus on Wednesday.
PUDUCHERRY: Volunteers and leaders of different political parties and the Confederation of the Government Employees Associations took out a joint rally from Avvai Thidal in Saram here on Wednesday to protest against the Centre's decision to convert the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research into an autonomous body. The Convenor of the JIPMER Anti Conversion Action Committee (the sponsor of the rally) T. Murugan (Communist Party of India-Marxist), the secretary of the party here V. Perumal, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislator Ohm Sakthi Segar, the Dalit Panthers of India convenor of Pondicherry Paavanan, the Republican Party Leader Leon, the president of the Confederation of government employees association C.H. Balamohanan and a host of representatives of various organisations participated of the rally. Employees of the Centrally-administered JIPMER constituting the committee also joined the rally. Mr. Murugan told the participants that a bandh would be observed here to protest against the Centre's decision on September 26.
