HYDERABAD: Heeding the warning issued by the party high command, Congress MPs Lagadpati Rajagopal (Vijayawada) and Sarvey Satyanarayana (Siddipet) agreed to sink their differences and abide by the diktat on Wednesday. The two leaders, who were involved in a wordy duel over the past few days, separately met AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, who is understood to have pulled them up for their conduct. Both leaders explained the circumstances that led to the controversy and promised to stop issuing statements.
Ready for apology
But minutes after his meeting with Mr. Singh, the Siddipet MP demanded the arrest and booking of a case against Mr. Rajagopal for insulting Dalits. However, once the APCC executive meeting at Gandhi Bhavan concluded, both leaders were guarded in their reactions. Mr. Rajagopal said he would abide by the party direction. He went to the extent of saying that he did not mind apologising to Mr. Satyanarayana but refused to do the same to those who had manhandled him. Mr. Satyanarayana, who had earlier used strong words against Mr. Rajagopal, was summoned to the Lakeview guesthouse in the afternoon. After his meeting with Mr. Singh, the Siddipet MP maintained that the issue was now a closed chapter.
Hectic activity was witnessed at the Lakeview guesthouse where Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC president K. Keshava Rao were closeted with Mr. Singh discussing the latest political developments. Congress MLAs -- P. Janardhan Reddy and M. Sashidhar Reddy -- who have been critical of the Government over the issue of Pothireddypadu head regulator, met Mr. Singh to explain their view point.
