TIRUCHI: Tiruchi defeated Virudhunagar 3-1 and entered the quarterfinals of the senior State hockey championship conducted by the Tiruchi District Hockey Association here on Wednesday. Joel Paul's fifth minute goal gave Tiruchi the lead. Raman made it 2-0 four minutes later through a penalty corner. Anbil scored just before half time and took the match beyond the reach of Virudhunagar. Romals Dony netted the consolation goal for Virudhunagar in the second-half. In another league match, Coimbatore thrashed Vellore 6-0. Kumar and Sunil Kumar scored two goals each, while Suthish Kumar and Ashok Kumar managed a goal apiece.
