Tirunelveli: City XI retained the R.T. Parthasarathy Memorial Trophy by virtue of its fist innings lead in the three-day TNCA under-19 City XI verses Districts Combined match which concluded at ICRC ground, Sankarnagar on Wednesday. Resuming at the overnight score of 119 for five Combined Districts XI scored 303 in its first innings in 102.2 overs thanks to a fine 122 by K. Sriram. City in its second innings scored 30 for one in 6.5 overs at close of play and the match ended in a draw. However City XI took the trophy by virtue of its first innings lead. The scores: City XI 414 for nine declared and 30 for one in 6.5 overs drew with Combined Districts XI 303 in 102.2 overs (E. Ashwin 74, K. Sriram 122, K.M. Ramachandran 34, C. Naveen four for 26, M. Prabu three for 86)
Unbeaten century
At Madurai, a dazzling unbeaten 121 by Silambarasan helped Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariyapatti, defeat Madurai Medical College by 73 runs and enter the semifinals of the India Cements Trophy Districts-level inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the American College ground, Madurai, on Wednesday. The scores (quarterfinals): SIT, Kariapatti, 183 for one in 18 overs (Silambarasan 121 not out) bt Madurai Medical College 110 for five in 18 overs; Madura College 149 for four in 20 overs (Ramkumar 65) bt American College 120 in 20 overs (Shyam 52). Sourashtra College w/o SVN College.
Don Bosco posts win
Don Bosco Football Club beat Usilai Soccer Club, Usilampatti, 3-0 in the Madurai District Football Association `A' division league for Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at Madura College ground on Wednesday. Benny, Zimbu and James scored.
Arulmigu triumphs
At Kovilpatti, Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Krishnan Kovil, beat host National Engineering College 29-18, 29-20 for the title in the final of the Anna University Zone-10 inter-engineering women's ball badminton tournament at Kovilpatti on Wednesday. Other results: Third place: Kamaraj EC (Virudhunagar) bt Mepco Schlenk EC (Sivakasi) 29-11, 29-10. Semifinals: AKCE (Krishnan Kovil) bt Mepco 29-8, 29-12; National EC bt Kamaraj EC 29-6, 29-8.
St. John's in final
St. John's College, Palayamkottai, and host GVN College, Kovilpatti, entered the final of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate hockey tournament at the G.K. Stadium, Kovilpatti, on Wednesday. The results (semifinals): St. John's College 4 (Periadurai, Praveen Kumar 2, Leo Douglas) bt St. Xaviers College 0; GVN College 4, (Karthik Selvam, Periaraj, Kaliraj, Muthuraj) bt MDT Hindu College, Tirunelveli, 3 (Nagaraj, Ramesh, Sundara Pandian) via tiebreaker, regulation time 2-2.
