NEW DELHI: Raghunathjew Bidyapith, Cuttack and Hmar Venj High School, Kolasib, Mizoram, won their last league matches and made it to the quarterfinals of the Subroto Cup junior football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday. The Orissa school thrashed Maharashtra High School and Junior College, Kolhapur, 10-1with Mansingh Murmu scoring three goals and Saroj Pradhan netting it thrice, in the Group III league. Abdul S. Khan, Ram Ray Murmu and S. K. Juber were the other scorers for the Orissa school. Maharashtra school in fact took the lead in the seventh minute, but failed to sustain the pressure. Hmar Venj blanked Sainik School, Imphal, 8-0 in the Group IV league match. Zohmingthanga scored three goals for the Mizo school, while Vanlal Hnangaiha struck twice. James Lalchning Sanga, K.C. Lalchhuanmawia and Lalmingliana were the other scorers. In an inconsequential Group IV league match, Chattradhari High School, Samastipur, Bihar, defeated NCC West Bengal and Sikkim, 3-1. In the first league match in the Group V, Dhondacham High School, Golaghat, Assam, defeated The Air Force School 6-1. Anutpal Chetia scored four goals while Shyam Murah and Bikram Limbu completed the scoring. Tushar Chaudhary scored for the loser.
