KOLKATA: Defending champion Mohun Bagan managed to subdue Mohammedan Sporting with a 12th minute Bhaichung Bhutia strike in the second leg of the Sahara Kolkata Football League premier division match here on Wednesday. The win, achieved at a rain-drenched Salt Lake Stadium, not only helped Bagan avenge its first leg 1-2 loss but also lifted it to the second place in the league table behind East Bengal. Mohun Bagan has 17 points from nine matches, two points behind the league leader. The second defeat for Sporting in 10 matches could prove costly as the league enters the home stretch. With the midfield playing well, Mohun Bagan enjoyed the lion's share in the exchanges and the goal was a tribute to Bhutia's opportunism. When Dharamjit Singh moved up down the left, it never looked a goal-bearing move. His low centre came to the top of the box. Before a defender could clear the ball, Bhutia produced a first-time left-footer for the match winner. Special Correspondent
