TO THE RESCUE: District Collector I.S. Sri Naresh interacting with ration card beneficiaries at a DPL Centre in Manikbhandar of Makloor mandal in Nizamabad district on Wednesday.
NIZAMABAD: Out of the total of 4.91 lakh ration cards to be distributed in the district, over 3.87 lakh were issued and steps have been on to give away to the rest of the households, according to district Collector I.S. Sri Naresh. To issue ration cards, 59 Iris camera centres have been in operation in the jurisdiction of total 1,025 fair price shop centres across the district. However, the issue of cards was complete in 733 fair price shop centre areas. After making surprise visits to the DPL centres at Mubaraknagar in Nizamabad mandal and Manikbhandar in Makloor mandal on Wednesday, the Collector asked the authorities to expedite the process of issuing the ration cards to all the eligible people by this month end. He directed them to issue between 150 and 200 cards at each centre every day. At Manikbhandar village, he was told that out of 1,200 cards to be issued till date only 400 were distributed. The Collector assured hostel welfare officers (wardens) that he will ensure supply of sufficient cooking gas to the hostels and messes run by the Social Welfare Department.
Promise to wardens
He said he would also consider allotment of land for construction of a union building for the wardens. District level games would be conducted for hostel students in November, he said. Joint Collector G. Ramnarayana Reddy said he would take care of supply of essential commodities like rice and pulses to all hostels without any hurdle. The Collector was felicitated by the HWOs' Association. The Collector honoured students who had secured highest marks and HWOs who achieved 100 per cent results.
