Meghalaya denies reports on illegal migrants

Shillong : The Meghalaya Government on Wednesday denied media reports that illegal migrants were sent from the State to Assam.

``Why should we send them (illegal migrants) to Assam? It will be very silly on our part to even contemplate this. We don't have any quarrel with the Assam Government,'' Chief Secretary S. K. Tiwari told reporters after a Cabinet meeting that discussed the issue.

Making it clear that no official complaint was received from the Assam Government, Mr. Tiwari said the Assam and Meghalaya Governments were unanimous on the issue of dealing with illegal aliens. — PTI
