JAIPUR: Many students sustained injuries when the police resorted to use of force at eight places in Sikar district and at least one place in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan on Wednesday in connection with a roadblock call issued by the Students' Federation of India in protest against an increase in examination fees by the University of Rajasthan. About half a dozen police personnel also reportedly sustained injuries in stone throwing. The police fired in the air and burst tear gas shells to disperse mobs of youth along the Sikar-Jaipur by-pass near Rasheedpura and at Harsava in Fatehpur tehsil while they resorted to cane charge in Vadhadhar, Losal, Laxmangarh and Reengas and outside S.K.College in Sikar town. Three students who sustained serious injuries in Harsava were admitted to hospital. The police arrested CPI(M) secretary Vasudev, who was proceeding to Vadhadhar from Sikar town in on Wednesday. According to Ravindra Shukla, member of the CPI (M) State Secretariat, police beat up those who accompanied Prof.Vasudev prior to arresting him.
