Consumer-friendly power bills launched

Staff Reporter

Normal bills to be in blue, those with arrears in red

  • Warrants, disconnection notice to be attached with red bills
  • Statutory disconnection notices will be sent with bills to extreme defaulters

NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) has announced the launch of electricity bills in a new format for its consumers in the Capital. The new bills in blue and red have a vibrant look to make a distinction between regular bills with no outstanding dues and those that have accumulated arrears.

The normal bills will be in blue and those with arrears in red. In case of the red bills, warrants along with a disconnection notice will also be attached. In the case of extreme defaulters, statutory disconnection notices will be sent alongside.

The new electricity bills, to be introduced by this month-end, will come in a monthly or bi-monthly cycle, as per present practice, which depends on the consumer's load usage.

The format of the new bill is designed in such a way as to make it easy-to-read with detailed billing information, break-up of charges and other useful information.

The bills in red format would help sensitise those consumers who have accumulated arrears on their bills. Such consumers quite often face difficulties subsequently by incurring late payment surcharge, possible disconnection and associated inconvenience.

An NDPL spokesman said it was hoped that the bill in the red format would caution the consumer to immediately initiate measures to rectify the situation and ensure settlement of dues.

Speaking at the launch of the new initiative, NDPL Chief Operating Officer Arup Ghosh said: "We have always endeavoured to provide customer-friendly services and the initiative to introduce bills of different colours is yet another step in this direction. We hope this new consumer-friendly initiative will not only help our consumers to understand the power bills more easily but also take precautionary measure on time in case someone had inadvertently missed paying the previous bill."
