New chief for medical association

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal has been elected Chairman of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Academy of Medical Specialities for 2007.

Dr. Aggarwal, who secured 1,214 votes out of a total of 1,499, said he would devote the whole year to the cause of medical specialists in the country. His priorities would include framing guidelines for tackling various diseases in the country and solving the problems of medical establishments in the city.

More water from Sonia Vihar plant

NEW DELHI: After successful release of 70 million gallons a day of water from the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant in the first phase, the Delhi Jal Board released an additional 35 MGD in the Capital on Wednesday.

The second phase release of water has been made possible by advancing the commissioning schedule from October/November to September and also due to the fast-track work carried out to complete the underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations at Ghazipur, Mandawali, Shastri Park and Suraj Mal Vihar. The additional 35 MGD will mainly benefit trans-Yamuna areas.

Energy audit conducted

NEW DELHI: The Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) has conducted an energy audit of Shastri Bhavan here and studied the consumption pattern of various gadgets in the building that runs over 1,500 window air-conditioners and water coolers during summer.

In a release, the Association said replacing all existing window air-conditioners by a centralised AC system would considerably bring down the energy consumption. It has recommended use of sun films on window glasses to cut heat entry by 70 per cent.

Seminar on immigration

NEW DELHI: Worldwide Immigration Consultancy Services (WWICS), a pioneer in the global resettlement industry, on Wednesday held a seminar here in the Capital to announce its trans-continental campaign to educate students, professionals and entrepreneurs in various countries on global resettlement options abroad.

WWICS will organise a trans-continental seminar series on global resettlement in various cities across the globe so that students and entrepreneurs can reap dividends of re-settlement abroad.

Ganja seized

New Delhi: Police have seized 45 kg of ganja, worth Rs 1 lakh, and arrested one youth from North Delhi in this connection. Twenty-year-old Govind Kumar Jha was arrested yesterday from Sarai Rohilla with 45 kg ganja packed in three bags, police said on Wednesday.

Jha belongs to Musahrawa of Bihar. In another case, one Naushad (22), belonging to neighbouring Ghaziabad, was arrested near Seemapuri in North East with 3.5 kg ganja.
