MYSORE: The State Government will accord priority for industrial investment in Mysore and Mangalore, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said. He was speaking to presspersons at a function to mark the inauguration of a building of the GSSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women here on Wednesday.
Potential
Mr. Yediyurappa said Mysore was the only city after Bangalore with a potential to attract industrial investment and the Government would encourage investors to tap other centres also. Mr. Yediyurappa, who is also holds the Finance portfolio, said that he was successful in securing a positive response from non-resident Indians and other investors in the U.S. "A team of delegates from New York and California will visit the State shortly to identify areas for investment," he said.
Healthy
Expressing confidence that the industrial growth in the State was healthy, the Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that the Government had cleared investments worth Rs. 90,000 crore. This would help in generating an additional 10-lakh jobs in the manufacturing and service sectors in the State, he said. Reacting to former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's remarks that he had generated more funds to the State exchequer, Mr. Yediyurappa said that his Government had set a record by releasing Rs. 850 crore for development projects. Responding to Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy's announcement to ban the sale of arrack from next year, Mr. Yediyurappa said the Cabinet had to discuss the issue and it needed serious thinking. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi inaugurated the building of the institute. Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swami of Ganapati Ashram was present.
