Cook held on job scam charges

CHENNAI
: The job racket wing of the City police Crime Branch has arrested Anthony Das of Adambakkam, a cook in a defence official's house, on charges of taking money from unemployed youths promising them jobs in the Officers Training Academy.
Investigating officers said here on Wednesday that Das had promised the youths that he would get them postings in the OTA, where recruitment was under way, and taken Rs 1.50 lakh from four or five persons.
Remanded to
judicial custody
Acting on a complaint from Vincent of Ponneri, the police arrested Das and remanded him to judicial custody.
Further investigation is on.
Man beaten to death
A middle-aged man who was allegedly beaten up by residents of Madavaram on Tuesday night, died in the MMC hospital here today. Police said the residents mistook the person to be a thief and assaulted him.
