Guest lecturers held for road roko bid

CHENNAI
: Members of the Tamil Nadu Guest Lecturers Association were arrested after they attempted to stage a road roko on Kamarajar Salai on Wednesday.
Unfulfilled promise
Association president M. D. Raj Kumar said the Government had announced that the lecturers, at present working as temporary staff, would be made permanent. However, it was not fulfilled. Hence, in protest, lecturers from 67 government colleges came to Chennai and attempted to stage a protest. They were taken to the sands of the Marina where the protest went on till 1 p.m. Later, the police arrested them. Association secretary A. Arul said many members had been working as guest lectures since 1996 and so far their services had not been confirmed.
