BANGALORE: Baldwin Girls' School conducted its annual athletics meet recently. A spectacular splash of colour and activity marked the various events, which were kicked off with the games captain taking the oath on behalf of the participating athletes. Student council president Madhavi Sahai and games captain Ashwini B. Prithvi lit the sports torch to mark the beginning of the day's events. The day witnessed new meet "records" being created and existing ones broken by some of the school's athletes. Aishwarya G.M. and Nirupama Sunderraj created new meet records in the long jump and the high jump events and were adjudged the "Star Athletes" of the meet. The grand finale of the day was the colourful displays by students of various classes. The meet concluded with the school band rendering "Abide with me" and the last post being sounded.
Qwiz 2006
National Hill View Public School, conducted "Qwiz 2006", an inter-school quiz for teachers for the third year. Over 100 teams from 32 schools participated in the quiz, racking their brains in response to the teasers posed by quizmaster Giri "Pickbrain" Balasubramaniam. Sunanda Naganand, vice-chairperson, Indian Montessori Centre, was felicitated for her contribution to the field of education. The team of Geetha Viswanathan and Madhulika Chandrakumar from Sishu Griha Montessori and High School emerged winners after a gruelling final round of quizzing.
Prathiba Karanji
The high school and higher primary students of DVV Gujarati Shala, Majestic Circle, have brought laurels to the institution by winning many prizes at Prathiba Karanji conducted by the Education Department. They secured first place in poem recitation in English, Kannada and Hindi. They won prizes in clay modelling, rangoli, painting, singing of the National Anthem and quiz. They have qualified for the district-level competition.
Exhibition
India International School, Chikkabellandur, organised an exhibition to demonstrate the creativity of students to their parents. The exhibits included dolls, theme art, pots and paintings. Children from classes I to X participated in the event. Pottery making, candle making, junk or trash art and painting are part of co-curricular activities at the school. "Students need the maximum exposure in their initial stages, which will keep them in good stead for he competitive days ahead," says Mary, coordinator of Art and Craft. "Children have excelled in such activities and we are grooming them in all possible ways," she adds.
