MANGALORE: The First Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate N.S. Mamadapura on Wednesday convicted four persons of committing burglary in the Katipalla branch of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank. The court had declared them guilty on Saturday and reserved sentencing. The accused are Sripathi Acharya, owner of the building where the branch is located; and Vittal Shetty, N.H. Yusuf and Lakshmana, bank employees. The judge sentenced them to five years' imprisonment and fined them Rs. 5,000 (Section 457 IPC) apart from three years' imprisonment and Rs. 3,000 fine (Section 380 IPC). The judge sentenced Lakshmana to a year's imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 for conspiracy (Section 120 B IPC) and burglary.
