Student, factory manager robbed

Both the victims were walking home alone at night at the time of the attack

BANGALORE: Armed men waylaid a student and a factory employee and robbed them of cash, mobile phone and credit cards in two incidents reported from Peenya and Bayappanahalli police station limits on Tuesday night.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m., B. Suman, a student, was walking home in Visvesvaraya Layout from a cyber café. Three men stopped him near his house, threatened him with a knife and robbed him of Rs. 300 in cash and a mobile phone. On a complaint by Mr. Suman, the peenya police have registered a case.

In the other case, around midnight, two men waylaid Vijay Kumar, a private factory manager, and robbed him of Rs. 1,200 in cash and credit cards. The incident took place near Railway Parallel Road while Mr. Vijay Kumar was walking home after finishing his work, the police said. Mr. Vijay Kumar is a resident of Sadanandnagar.

Teenager ends life

Aishwarya (17) allegedly committed suicide by consuming phenol at her house in Vinobanagar in Kalasipalya police station limits on Tuesday night.

According to a complaint filed by her mother Manu with the Kalasipalya police, Aishwarya had taken the extreme step as her lover had cheated her. Aishwarya's parents are florists at the City Market, the police said.

Killed in accident

A pedestrian was killed after a van hit him in Peenya traffic police station limits on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. near Sonal Garments on 100 Feet Road, the police said. The victim was identified as Saleem Javed of Laggere.

Two persons were killed and four were injured after a KSRTC bus by which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree in Kanakapura taluk in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday night.

The police said that around 10.30 p.m., the bus driver rammed a banyan tree, between Thoppaganahalli and Puttegowda Doddi.

The bus, carrying 16 passengers, was bound for Kanakapura from Bangalore.

The dead were identified as Raju (30) of Keregodu in Mandya district and Deepak (22) of Halasinamarada Doddi in Kanakapura taluk. While Raju worked in a furniture shop in Bangalore, Deepak was a student of a college in Kanakapura, the police said. The Kanakapura Rural police have registered a case.

Arrested

The Ulsoor police on Tuesday arrested Manjunath (24) of Bommanahalli on charges of burglary and recovered from him two motorcycles, gold ornaments, electronic gadgets and saris, all estimated at Rs. 2.25 lakh.

The police said Manjunath was involved in 10 burglaries reported from Ulsoor, Vidyaranyapura, and urthynagar police station limits in the city and Tiptur Town police station limits in Tumkur district.
