Man's death leads to protest near hospital
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
Tension prevailed at Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation in Basavanagudi on Wednesday after a group of people staged a demonstration alleging that the hospital authorities were refusing to issue a death certificate.
According to the police, around 11 a.m., Kumaraswamy (52), a lecturer at a private college at Srigandadakaval on Magadi Road, complained of chest pain and collapsed at a bus stand on Mysore Road.
Subsequently, Mr. Kumaraswamy's son brought him to Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation. The doctors there declared that Mr. Kumaraswamy was brought dead. When Mr. Kumaraswamy's relatives and friends asked the hospital authorities to issue a death certificate, they refused it on the grounds that the patient was brought dead.
Later, several of Mr. Kumaraswamy's friends and relatives gathered at the hospital and staged a protest. After nearly three hours of arguments and intervention of some politicians, the hospital authorities issued a death certificate.
The spokesman of the hospital, B.G. Sreenivasa, told The Hindu that the hospital was not supposed to issue a death certificate as the person was brought dead.
