`Fill backlog posts'

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Activists of Samata Sainik Dal launched a protest here on Wednesday demanding that the backlog posts in various government departments, boards and corporations be filled at the earliest.

They said the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition Government was not doing much on the notification citing the special recruitment rules formulated in 2001.

The Government had set up a new Cabinet subcommittee disregarding the recommendations made by the subcommittees set up by the earlier governments. The new subcommittee, headed by Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, held only one meeting in May and it "failed" to take any decision. The Government should take steps to fill the vacant posts in the Public Works Department and government polytechnics, they said.

The activists would continue their protest at the Bannappa Park till the Government conceded their demands, secretary of the State unit of the Republican Party K. Chandrashekar, said.
