Meagre inflows into water bodies

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: There were meagre inflows into Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs supplying drinking water to the twin cities even as heavy rain lashed the city in the last couple of days. Water board officials said that unless the catchment areas of the reservoirs in Vikarabad and Tandur received heavy rains, it was difficult for them to receive sizeable inflows. Further, growing encroachments over the years along the course considerably reduced the inflows. Osmansagar and Himayatsagar received 0.008 tmc and 0.022 tmc of inflows respectively on Wednesday.

However, Singur, the mainstay of drinking water supply for the State capital, received considerable inflows, almost one tmc.
