SPACE CRUNCH: By-lanes are turning out to be a good option for owners to park their vehicles in the city. Photo: Mohd. Yousuf
HYDERABAD: Tendency of parking vehicles in the by-lanes adjacent to the main roads has become a matter of annoyance to the residents and commercial establishments in the twin cities. With traffic police acting tough on commuters parking their vehicles on the main road, motorists are getting increasingly habituated to park their vehicles in the lanes lying next to the main road. The situation is rampant in places like Paradise and General Bazaar where the by-lanes are clogged by haphazard parking of two-wheelers. This makes it impossible for the commuter to ply freely and the commercial establishments to do business in peace. "Our customers vent their ire on us because we are unable to provide them with space to park their vehicles. Most of the times, our lane is filled with two-wheelers and our customers do not get enough space," said Haroon Rasheed, a businessman in General Bazaar.
Cause of concern
Even in residential colonies like Hyderguda, Himayathnagar and Narayanguda, parked vehicles have become a cause of concern for the local residents. "I can't bring my car inside my own lane because people park their vehicle and go away to do their work in the commercial establishments. The shops and companies here have not provided them with enough space and they have become a burden on us," says P. Ramesh, a resident of Vithalwadi in Narayanguda. The situation of by-lane parking becomes even worse in congested places like Ameerpet, Koti and Abids. "I can't bring my vehicle into my own clinic during evenings just because the whole lane is filled to the brim with private vehicles. We had alerted the traffic police but they can't be present here always to stop people from parking," said Ch. Ramesh, said a vehicle owner in Ameerpet.
