Sony World burgled; goods worth Rs. 12 lakhs stolen
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Burglars took away electronic goods worth Rs. 12 lakhs from Sony World, located near Secunderabad Clock Tower, after lifting its shutter in the early hours of Wednesday.
The huge building, accommodating the reputed Sony company showroom and a couple of other business establishments, had a single watchman. The showroom shutter neither had a security alarm nor a central lock.
Market Inspector L. Satish said the offenders sneaked inside after lifting the shutter, apparently using a crow bar. They collected 10 cameras, nine handy cams and 25 mobile phones on display and Rs. 75,000 from the cash drawer. "For some reason, they did not touch several other sealed cameras and mobile phones," the Inspector said.
Watchman Narsinga Rao told police that he kept a tab on the shop till 3.30 a.m. and retired into the cellar later.
Police believe that the burglars broke into the shop soon after the guard left. The shop staff noticed the shutter lifted when they came to duty at 11 a.m. and alerted the police.
Sony World executive director Arun Kumar lodged the complaint.
