Abandoned suitcase creates tension

An abandoned suitcase at the bus bay in front of Secunderabad Railway Station led to tension on Wednesday. People at the bus stop called up the Gopalpuram police stating that they saw an unclaimed suitcase and there could be a bomb inside it.

City security wing officials rushed to the spot and shifted the suitcase to an isolated place. The bomb disposal squad opened it only to find some clothes, a mobile phone charger and a `laddu' inside it.

House burgled

Thieves took away Rs. 25,000 and gold ornaments weighing 22 tolas after breaking into a house at Kukatpally on Tuesday night. The house owner and retired agriculture officer Murthy, along with his family members, went out for shopping when the house was burgled.

The offenders entered the house by jumping down the compound wall, broke the main door lock and made off with the gold and cash.

Jail for two in kidnap case

The Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge here on Wednesday sentenced two persons, V. Sandeep Choudhary, 25, and Mohd. Saleem, 26, to undergo three years' imprisonment for kidnapping a cricketer, Chamunderswarinath, a year ago.

The duo and four others were charged with abducting the cricketer from KBR Park on April 12, 2005. Four others, however, were acquitted of the charge. Additional Public Prosecutor B. Rajeswar Reddy argued the case.

Constable killed

A head constable of the Special Protection Force, Venkat Reddy, 40, was killed when a speeding RTC bus hit the motorcycle he was riding near Uppal Kendriya Vidyalaya on Wednesday.
