Drama competition begins tomorrow

KOCHI: The 19th State-level professional drama competition organised by the Media Commission of the Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) will be held here from September 23 to 30.

Eight plays selected from 35 entries would compete, said Fr. Devasi Kollamkudiyil, secretary of the Media Commission, at a press conference.

Cash prize

The winners would be awarded cash prize and a citation. Eight individual awards, including those for the best actor and actress, were instituted, he said.

Plays such as `Mazhaveenapattu,' `Swapnalokathorachan,' `Nanmayude Nakshatram,' `Priyamanasam, `Neethiyude Pravachakan,' `Koottukudumbam' and `Annarakannanum Thannalayathu' and a Biblical play `Daivadoothika' will be staged.

The competition would be inaugurated by Bishop Mar Thomas Chakiyat, chairman of the Media Commission.

C.L. Jose, playwright and Sangeetha Nataka Akademi chairman, will preside.
