Bidar: Over 50,000 farmers in Karnataka are practising natural farming promoted by Subhash Palekar and are finding it better than chemical farming, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha district president Vishwanath Patil Koutha has said. He told presspersons here on Wednesday that the KRRS and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha would hold workshops and seminars in all the districts. "We are starting with seminars in Kudal Sangam in Bagalkot and Suttur Math in Mysore. Mr. Palekar and other practising farmers will deliver lectures and interact with farmers at these seminars," Mr. Koutha said. The workshop in Kudala Sangam will be held for five days from October 4. The five-day workshop in Mysore will be held from October 12. Natural farmer Veerbhushan Nandagave said this method had brought him dividends. "Earlier, I used to spend a lot of money on fertilizers and pesticides. But in the last four seasons, I have stopped spraying fertilizers or pesticides, either chemical or organic. It is difficult to change over at first. Some farmers have experienced reduced yield when they suddenly shift to natural farming. However, consistent efforts not only bring profits to farmers, but also reduces the cost of cultivation and enriches the soil, Mr. Nandagave said.
