Actor Shriya Reddy plays new role for children

CHENNAI: It is 11 a.m. on Wednesday. A van is parked at a road junction in Trustpuram, Kodambakkam. On its side, the van carries the picture of a dentist with a message on oral hygiene.

Suddenly there is a flutter as actor Shriya Reddy (of `Thimiru' fame) arrived. But, the situation is easily manageable. The crowd consists mostly of children from Pratham -Vidyarambam, a community-based organisation that provides pre-primary education to underprivileged children.

The programme was organised by Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd. and the Indian Dental Association (IDA) to create awareness of the importance of maintaining good oral health among children by conducting regular dental check-ups. Shriya is sweet with the children as she explains to them the importance of good teeth.

The theme for the Oral Health Month 2006 is `Towards zero tooth decay".The programme focuses on taking preventive measures to keep away oral health problems. The dentists in the vans conduct the checks and advise people on the required treatment. The vans move around the city to give free dental check-ups for children and adults in the poorer sections of the city.
